Tracks for Second Genesis Users
Category: wayne shorter vinyl
The renowned saxophonist Wayne Shorter, who is currently 86 years old, was born in Newark, New Jersey, on August 25, 1933. Jazz critic Ben Ratliff of the New York Times has described Shorter as "probably jazz's greatest living small-group composer and a contender for greatest living improviser." Many of Shorter's compositions have become widely recognized as jazz standards, and his musical output has earned global acclaim, critical praise, and various accolades, including multiple Grammy Awards.
Presented in this collection is Shorter's complete LP, "Second Genesis." Although his music would later become much more experimental after joining Miles Davis' quintet a few years later, this album showcases Shorter in the post-bop style that was more akin to the music he had performed during that same period with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers.
The lineup for this recording session, which took place in Chicago on October 11, 1960, includes:
- WAYNE SHORTER, tenor sax
- CEDAR WALTON, piano
- BOB CRANSHAW, bass
- ART BLAKEY, drums
The original session was produced by Sid McCoy.
As a bonus, this collection also includes additional tracks featuring:
- WAYNE SHORTER, tenor sax
- LEE MORGAN, trumpet
- WYNTON KELLY, piano
- PAUL CHAMBERS, bass
- PHILLY JOE JONES, drums
These bonus tracks were recorded in New York on August 12, 1959, and the original session was also produced by Sid McCoy.
The Francis Wolff Collection presents this collection of Shorter's music on 180g vinyl, housed in gatefold sleeves, allowing listeners to immerse themselves in the rich, warm sound of these iconic jazz recordings.
